Health101 App

-This is an android based application that is aimed at revolutionizing how things are done in the public health department and the general Health department in Kenya as a whole. The current system in use is very manual and paper based where the Public Health Officers have to walk from Public eating joints like Hotels, Food kiosks, bars and restaurants. It is also geared towards streamlining operations in the Laboratories, Pharmacies and Private Clinics in the country. Apart from automating the system used in managing and verification of the details of the various practioners, thus helping to curb corruption by eliminating the paper based systems that are susceptible to manipulation; it is also expected to help the various departments mentioned above in a number of ways, each of which is looked at in details below.

(i) Medical Centres, Laboratories and Pharmacies

-Many times, several Kenyans have lost their lives in the hands of quack doctors due to professional negligence, and or inexperience by the persons handling the patients. Others have also have Severe Drug Reactions (SDR) and yet others have also suffered other life threatening conditions by being given the wrong Laboratory reports thereby leading to wrong prescriptions. This app will therefore help reduce such cases by providing the responsible officers/offices with timely and up to date information about the qualified persons and the validity of their licenses, thereby helping to drastically eliminate the quacks from these very important sectors and thus reducing deaths resulting from such cases and creating a healthy nation for all.

(ii) Food vending Joints (kiosks), Hotels, Pubs etc

-This is another area where a number of people have lost their lives or contracted food borne pathogens and diseases, and even food poisoning from consuming ill prepared foodstuff and ill stored foods handled by unqualified personnel. Many of these people have always gone scot-free after such actions and whenever the responsible officers carryout spot checks at the various food joints, they are unable to arrest them as they would claim to have registered and are awaiting their certificates, or even run and register whenever they hear of a crackdown, and since the whole system is paper based, the officers always have hard time confirming when or whether these practitioners are registered at all. This app therefore gives the officers an avenue with a live database to verify such information and catch such quacks in the act and weed them from our systems. This in essence will lead to a Healthy population as well since we will be sure of the safety of the food we are eating.

(iii) Assistance to the Practitioners and the general public

-This app will also be of great importance to the general public and the practioners themselves. The general public will be able to compel the practioners to show them their licenses, which they can also validate using the system whenever they have doubt about the people serving them, and to the practioners, this app allows them to check the validity of their licenses and prepare to renew them in ample time so that they are not caught operating illegally.
